Initial WISP discussion

I’ve had an encouraging first conversation with the head of the analytical team at AB Internet.

They have provided a number of communities like us across the country with a wireless broadband solution.  It’s well established technology and download speeds can reach 50Mbps.

He’s going to look into our situation and see if they can provide us one, too.

I’ll let you know when I hear more.

LCC Stakeholder Forum

This from County Hall – I’ll be attending, as I have previous meetings and will report back here any news of significance for Holwell:
The next Superfast Leicestershire Stakeholder Forum will be on the 22nd September 2014 at County Hall.  This was originally scheduled for the 9th September

We have decided to put this back to enable us to provide a better update on progress……including the new interactive map (and postcode checker) and the Phase 2 public consultation

Items on the agenda will include
  • Fibre broadband deployment progress
  • Interactive mapping – including live coverage and postcode checker
  • Phase 2 procurement – including Open Market Review public consultation
  • Communications – including digital champions and business support activity.

Meeting requested with BT

I have written to the Project Manager of Superfast Leicestershire at County Hall, requesting a meeting with BT this Autumn to progress any plans it might have at this stage for connecting our village to fibre.  I have suggested BT is represented at this meeting by Openreach and Retail, so we can discuss both technical issues and the consumer aspects.

Thank you for completing our Broadband Survey over summer – an analysis of the results was included in our letter and is a vital part of our argument in pressing BT to bring fibre to Holwell.

I have copied this letter to Pam Posnett, who is the County Councillor responsible for the broadband project and to whom I talked about our issues at a meeting in July at Melton Borough Council’s offices.

I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back.
