Arthur Leonard Steele

Leonard, as he appears to be known to his family, was born in Holwell in 1898. His father, Ezra, was a carpenter and the family moved to Mansfield, Nottinghamshire soon after Leonard’s birth.

By the time Leonard joined the Leicestershire Regiment in Leicester on 7th July 1915, the family had settled in Danvers Road, Leicester, where they remained after the War.

201509 Private Arthur Leonard Steele was killed in action on 2nd July 1917, aged 19. He is remembered on the Arras Memorial, which commemorates 34,795 servicemen who have no known grave.
